Barclay, William Malo de Rune, 1842-1938

Born in Mauritius on 29 August 1842. Son of Sir David William Barclay. Married Harriet Jane Leslie in September 1863. Military career, retired from the army as Lieutenant in August 1866. Adjudged bankrupt in 1881. Arrived in Tauranga on the 'Lady Jocelyn' in January 1881. Editor of the Bay of Plenty Times, and later private secretary to John Ballance when he was Premier of New Zealand. Died in Karori, Wellington, in June 1938. His wife Harriet Jane Barclay died in 1919.

William Malo de Rune Barclay was also known as Captain W Barclay, Captain William Malo de R Barclay, and Captain W Malo de R.
