Description: Silhouette portrait in bronze, of a young Melbourne woman, educated with the children of Charles Joseph La Trobe Similar medallion held by Australian National Gallery (see TL 3/1/1, 6 May, 27 May 1981) Negative of this medallion by Steffano Webb is 1/2-009139 On acquisition this medallion was believed to show Mary Howitt, wife of William Howitt. The subject was re-identified in 2014 by Australian researcher Barbara Kane, as Edith Howitt, niece of William and Mary Howitt. Edith Howitt was briefly engaged to the sculptor in Melbourne.
