Provenance: Sold by the bookseller Thomas Thorpe to Sir Thomas Phillipps (1792-1872), Phillipps' distinctive call mark is on the title page ('Phillipps Ms 8835'). The 1836 transaction is recorded in Thorpe's catalogue held at the British Library (#140, in 'Supplement to Thomas Thorpe's catalogue of ancient manuscripts ... from the library of the late Sir George Naylor ... Dr Adam Clarke ... and another portion of the Southwell papers ...'. Listed as #8835 in 'The Phillipps manuscripts. Catalogus librorum manuscriptorum in bibliotheca D. Thomae Phillipps BT. ... 1837-1871' (Repr. London, 1968). It was later the property of Sir Joseph Kinsey, and came to the Library as part of his bequest.
