Survey ship, originally a collier named Marquis of Rockingham. She was purchased in 1771 and renamed Raleigh, then renamed Adventure later that year. She accompanied HMS Resolution on James Cook's second voyage to the Pacific (1772-1775). She returned to cargo freighting after Cook's expedition, and was sunk in the Saint Lawrence River in 1811.

Sailed from England March MDCCLXXII; Recto - George III King of Gr Britain France and Ireland etc. B F. This was the first medallic link between Great Britain and New Zealand. Although dated March 1772, the expedition did not actually leave until July 1772. The medals were struck in silver, copper and brass. The silver and copper medals bore a loop, and the brass medals were pierced so they could be worn around the neck. Cook distributed a limited number of these medals among Maori and other native chiefs in the Pacific Islands. In New Zealand the medals were distributed in three places only, at Dusky Sound, at Queen Charlotte Sound, and at Wellington Heads. The silver medals were probably distributed in England.
