Description: The steamship Devon aground on rocks close to shore, with a steep hill to the left, the hills of Palliser Bay visible in the background Artist unknown Note accompanying picture: "Devon". A Federal-Houlder-shire Line steamer went ashore at Pencarrow Head about 8.15 pm on the night of 25 August 1913. On this voyage the Master was Captain Robertson who was stricken with typhoid fever and placed in hospital at Capt Town. The ship then proceeded under the command of Chief Officer A H Gaunce.
