Description: Union banner with holes at the sides through which poles could be inserted for carrying in marches. Shows an archway with two workmen in the foreground, depictions of building activities, symbolic female figures representing Industry, Arts, Justice and Truth, a male figure representing unions and various slogans. Based on the original official design created in England by A. J. Waudby in 1861 and copied widely throughout the British Empire. See N. Z. Listener 2 March 1985, pp 63-65 & copy on TL 3/1/1, 2 March 1985. The Library has a modern photolithograph version of the same image with variant text, at C-123-033, published by the Carpenters' Union in the 1980s as a membership certificate. Quantity: 1 oil(s).
