Contains daily religious notes 1845-1846 (some of which have been pasted over with magazine illustrations); and brief biographical and personal notes. Also includes Maori material from the area, including 95 waiata - almost all of Te Arawa origin; an extensive Maori vocabulary for letters A-P giving English meanings; 82 whakatauki (proverbs) and other local notes in Maori only. In the foreground are groups of Maori, and there are two waka on the lake. Probably orginally from a drawing or lithograph by William Bambridge - there is a copy of this lithograph in the British Library. On the left is an inscription 'from a sketch by S. F. W', possibly S. F. Ward. The church shown was on Kariri (Galilee) Point at Lake Tarawera. It was established by Rev Seymour Mills Spencer in 1843. Spencer moved to nearby Te Wairoa in 1852. Inscriptions: Signed: C.
