Description: Set of photographs of Timaru and Waimate which have been cut to fit together for a magazine lay-out or similar. They are: interior of the Church of the Sacred Heart, Timaru; Timaru post office; Timaru Custom House with Quirk's Royal Hotel to the right; the new Primitive Methodist Church, Timaru; St Mary's Church, Timaru; the boys of the Main School, Timaru in their cadet uniforms on the playing field with visiting adults; the Boys' High School, Timaru; the Wesley Church, Timaru; Trinity Presbyterian Church, Timaru; two views of the Municipal Offices and Public Library, Timaru; Chalmers Presbyterian Church, Timaru; and the Waimate Court House. Description: Album of photographs collected by Albert Percy Godber which related to his interests. Photographers include Daniel Manders Beere, William Thomas Locke Travers and James Ring. Scenes in Australia include Adelaide waterworks, Currency Creek, the Murray River Bridge, the Thorndon Park Reservoir, and Port Adelaide River road & rail bridge. New Zealand scenes are chiefly in the South island, many relating to early railway construction, particularly areas involved in working on the Dunedin to Balclutha railway along the Waimakariri River, and around the Purakanui Cliffs. Of particular interest throughout the album are the construction and design of railway features such as bridges, viaducts and tunnels. North Island railway scenes include the Rimutaka Incline, the bend known as `Siberia', the Summit, and Pakuratahi. They all show city scenes including street views, and images of important buildings. The buildings include church buildings, bank buildings, insurance company office buildings, and hotels (both exterior and interior views of the Grand Hotel, Dunedin). In the North Island, there is a view of the Auckland Synagogue, and a view of Taratahi Homestead, the home of Lady Tancred and Sir Thomas Tancred, in the Carterton District.
