Description: Commercial photographs and postcards collected on a trip to England in 1928. They include Perth Western Australia, the Suez Canal, Port said and Cairo in Egypt, Naples and Pompei in Italy, Toulon and Paris in France as well as a group showing the interiors of the Royal Palace at Fontainebleau, Windsor Castle, St Albans, Stratford on Avon, and Oxford in England. Description: Contains black and white photographs. Images chiefly taken by Stephen John Smith; also by Sydney Hopkins and unidentified photographer(s) between 1914 and 1938. Includes: -Photographs of New Zealand troops in Samoa during World War One, including two taken aboard a ship, possibly the Moeraki or the Monowai, and a picture of the nursing staff in Apia, Samoa. Also included is a picture of Samoan stamps, a meal with pineapples and an image of Samoan policemen which was published in Smith's book "The Samoa (N.Z.) expeditionary force, 1914-1915". There are inscriptions on the reverse of these prints. -Two photographs of New Zealand military camps in Samoa during World War One, possibly Vaea Camp. -Two landscape photographs of beaches in Rarotonga, Cook Islands. One of the lagoon at Ngatangiia, and the other near Avarua. The image of Avarua has the H.M.S. Dunedin in the background. -One photograph of the outside of a stone house in Carnwath, Lanarkshire, Scotland and two photographs of the inside of the old hall, Weycroft, near Axminster, England. These were possibly sent to Smith by Colonel Robert Logan. Description: Photographs taken by Harry Hitchcock 1935 to 1936 mainly in Rugby, England. Includes handwritten captions. Images show the house Hitchcock stayed in at 283 Clifton Road, Rugby, a view from his window, and another view showing electric street lights on Clifton Road. One image taken in Woburn, Bedfordshire, on 24 December 1935; another shows 'Frog Hall' and the Roman road 'Fosse Way' at Wolston, Warwickshire; and another taken at Oxford and Cambridge Terraces, London of crowds waiting to see the funeral of King George V on 28 January 1936. Title supplied by Library. Arrangement: This album was received packaged together in paper with two other albums and photographic prints. Description: Includes menus issued during a voyage on the New Zealand Shipping Company vessel, M.V. "Rangitane", from New Zealand to England in July 1967, under Captain K Barnett. Also includes "Welcome aboard" funnel-shaped pamphlet, passenger list, plans of passenger accommodation (one dated May 1963 and one dated February 1966), Notes for passengers, Ports of call and shore excursions, two copies of a postcard of the ship, and a pamphlet about the Panama Canal. The menus have covers featuring different British scenes and buildings, and two feature Bermuda and Miami themes. Description: Includes menus issued during a voyage on the New Zealand Shipping Company vessel, R.M.S. "Rangitata", from London to Wellington via Madeira, Curacao and Panama Canal, beginning 7 April 1961, under Captain A Hocken. Also includes "Welcome aboard" funnel-shaped pamphlet, passenger list, Notes for passengers. The menus have covers featuring different British scenes and buildings, and a series of birds illustrated by H Wagstaff (woodpecker, tui, kea, mallard, jay, British robin). There is also a group of children's menus from the same voyage, featuring nursery rhyme characters (Little Miss Muffet, The Pied Piper, Winken Blinken & Nod). There are two programmes of the "Rangitata Jockey Club", and four folded brochures entitled "What's on M.V. Rangitata".
