Description: Photographs taken during the trial of Rua Kenana in 1916 at the Supreme Court in Auckland. Includes portraits of people associated with Rua and the trial, and most of the photographs were taken outside the Supreme Court. Photographer unidentified, except for a two-part panorama of Maungapohatu Pa, probably taken by Percy R Wilkinson, a surveyor sent in by the police to gather evidence for them A label at the back of the album advertises Walter Suckling (as the publisher?) It is understood that a number of similar photograph albums of the trial were created. Rua Kenana was accused of using seditious language, counselling others to murder or disable the police, and resisting arrest. He received the sentence of one year's hard labour followed by 18 months' imprisonment. Inscriptions: Album page - Frontispiece - To my old friend - - Hare Hongi.
