Description: Shows a Kanak woman of New Caledonia standing beside the kagou, a rare bird of the island. She is wearing a skirt of leaves and has a board strapped to her back for carrying objects, a staff in her right hand and a small bag in her left. To the right is a small house with a round roof. Derived with adjustments from an engraving 'View in the Island of New Caledonia' after William Hodges, artist on Cook's second voyage, published 1777, pl. 50. See also a close copy of this engraving drawn by Francesco Galimberti in his album Natives of America and the Pacific Islands, ca. 1786 (E-215-q-009). Description: Shows a number of artifacts from Fiji, Samoa and New Caledonia including musical pipes, decorated weapon sheaths, and other handheld objects. Beside one is the note "Resembling Lictor's fasces", and another has the note "H.M.S. Bramble" alongside it (Angas is not known to have travelled on the HMS Bramble). Navigator Island / Navigators Islands is another name for the Samoan Islands. They were named Navigators Islands by Louis de Bougainville, in 1768. Description: Shows the mouth of a small stream emptying into a large bay, with mountains in the distance. In the left foreground is a native hut with figures standing and sitting outside it, an outrigger canoe pulled up on the riverbank and another outrigger in the stream. At the other side of the stream outlet is another hut, a canoe and three figures with staffs. There is a canoe with a sail in the near part of the bay, and a sailing ship further into the distance. Several palm trees are in parts of the foreground. No current geographical name similar to A-no-no has been found Quantity: 1 watercolour(s). Physical Description: Watercolour, 170 x 250 mm.
