Interview with Olive Gordon

Description: Born in 1900 at parents home in Roxburgh East. Second youngest of 12 children. Father a farmer. Attended local school until 15. Music played an important part in family life, and the family was known for its musical evenings. Miss Gordon began playing piano aged 10, studied locally until aged 16 when she moved to Dunedin to continued with studies. Gained ATCL, LTCL, and FTCL. Miss Gordon taught piano in Roxburgh for many years. She also formed a dance band Gordon's Orchestra which played at functions and weekly dances in Roxburgh. The band also toured Central Otago. She also played for the silent movies for a number of years and was a theatre usher. Miss Gordon was involved in many organisations and was organist for the local Presbyterian church for more than 50 years. Though her main interest was music she also made hats and painted. Miss Gordon was awarded QSM in 1979. She died in August 1993.
