Description: Lettering with a Maori proverb on the left, followed by a comment in Latin and three separate sketches of New Zealand scenes, one showing a waka and the prow of a waka at sea with Mount Taranaki in the background, and one on the diagonal a wahi tapu or burial site with a a waka upright in the ground inside a small fence, also with Mount Taranaki in the background. The third drawing, lower right, is titled 'Maunga Natenga, Nowea' (Mount Natenga, Nowhere) shows a steep coastal rock formation, similar to the Sugar Loaf Islands in Taranaki, with a Maori dwelling at its base.
