Description: Photographic print taken by Fox Photos Limited of London circa 1940 showing (L to R) Mrs Harston, Mrs Levin [Levien?], and Corporal James Bell Norrie packing tins of food into brown paper parcels for men in the New Zealand forces based in England. The print bears on reverse the "Fox Photos" stamp, and a pasted on typescript caption "New Zealand women Prepare Xmas gifts from home, New Zealand women in this country are busy packing and re-addressing parcels containing Christmas gifts which have arrived from New Zealand for men of the New Zealand forces and those serving with the Navy and Air Force". Names of persons featured have been identified by handwriting on the reverse of the photograph. Description: Largly New Zealand material and photographs of paintings of the war in the Pacific by Allan Barclay Barns-Graham (official war artist) and Oliver Arthur Gillespie. New Zealand material includes views of coastal defences, military training at various camps, prisoner of war camps, Home Guard, public military parades, sports, army personnel including portraits, guns, tanks and other weapons, repatriated soldiers, medical units, ministerial visits, the posthumous investiture of Lt Ngarimu with the V.C., and mechanical transport. Arrangement: This collection is made up of empty negative envelopes with captions some of which have file prints attached to them, and sheets of contact prints which are also captioned. All of the negative envelopes have the relevant negative numbers written written on them. They were scattered throughout the wax boxes in which the War History collection had been housed for the last eight years. In giving the collection a general order they have been sorted into their series groups. This collection contains material which has been called the "35mm" series. They have not been arranged in numerical sequence as yet (though some might be so arranged). Any negatives will be found in the 35mm registers at 16398 - 16509. (Feb 1995)

Description: This lonely apparently deserted bivvy is a NZ Artillery observation post in the Sangro River area, and is under direct enemy observation from the heights on the other side of the river. This area came in for considerable shelling and it necessitated the photographer crawling up cautiously behind a heap of stones to get this shot. Description: Comprises photograph album belonging to Sapper Francis Pickrang (service no. 32297) relating to his service with the New Zealand Engineers, Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force (2NZEF) in North Africa, the Middle East and Italy during World War Two. Taken between circa 1941 and 1945 by unidentified photographer(s) and K G Killoh. -Studio portraits of Pickrang and other unidentified servicemen include a sailor in naval uniform and a woman. Also includes a studio portrait of Pickrang at a desk writing letters home. He appears to be looking towards an inset image of a woman and child. -Scenes taken in Western Desert locations include informal snaps of Francis Pickrang, an unidentified sailor in naval uniform, and other army soldiers in camp life, sight-seeing at local landmarks, working at military construction projects and on the coast.
