All Blacks coach John Mitchell calls for more excitement from the All Blacks. Jim Bolger promotes Kiwi Bank to other former world leaders. New Zealand horse Ethereal wins the Melbourne Cup. Helen Clark protects Turiana Turia from opposition accussations of political interference. President Bush attempts to calm and reassure the American people in the face of extreme threats from Osama bin Laden and his Al Qaeda network. John Howard wins another term as Australian Prime Minister on the backs of refugee boat people. Jim Anderton and Bill English look for ways to provide gaurded support for New Zealand SAS involvement in Afghanistan. Shows lions in a zoo with a sign 'Big Cat poisoning Times...' The Prime Minister is swollowed by a giant snake during a visit to the Amazon. A reporter asks her how the Amazon compares with NZ eco-tourism. Jim Anderton pretends to fire a gatling gun every time the Alliance Party President, Matt McCarten appears on television. Helen Clark arrives home to find the house demolished. Refers to Alliance Party infighting. Shows Jim Anderton and Matt McCarten facing off over the breakfast table. A Black Caps cricket player thanks an African rain-man for helping the team by creating rain which washed out the second test. Jim Anderton reassures everyone that the crisis within the Alliance Party is now over and he and Matt McCarten are now pulling in the same direction. The Alliance boat is now however sinking. New Zealanders make love twice a week on average. A woman comments that it is decidedly average. Afghanistan Alliance soldiers run over Taliban prisoners in an armoured tank. The bulk of the album consists of her travel to South Africa to stay with her brother Bill McCurdie and his wife Inga at their home in Kloof; visiting Mauritius on the way; and areas they visited in South Africa. The first shows Rhoda McWhannell's niece Sally Pat McCurdie and her fiance Keith Orange photographed at `Rozel' in November 1976; then their wedding at Auckland Cathedral on 18th December 1976. Description: Collection of photographs, many of which were taken by Rhoda McWhannell. A number of photographs taken in 1976 were published in the Auckland Herald, one published in the Dominion (Wellington), probably taken by Rhoda McWhannell who had a strong interest in photography for many years. Scenes published in the newspapers include one of a team of six Clydesdale horses pulling a plough; one of black swans with their cygnets at the lake in Hamilton; one of a group of four children on a swing, and a young boy on a single swing; and one photograph entited "Happy days", with a Maori workman lying in in the sun in his wheelbarrow during `smoko' or tea-break, with a thermette, a billy and a mug beside him, reading a paper. Photographs of animals at the zoo, lions with cubs, koala bears and two hippopotamuses. Several images of royalty, with the Queen Mother at Hamilton, on her visit to New Zealand in 1958, and Princess Alexandra, visiting in 1971. Several photographs show brides and wedding parties, ranging from Dorothy Shires and Marjorie Nicolls, both married in 1920, to Joan and John McWhannell, married in 1953. A number of farming images, including those published in the Herald, include one of drovers' dogs "after completing four weeks trek with a large mob of cattle" in the Auckland area, mustering in the Craigieburn Range (Southern Alps), and new-born lambs (one a group of four black lambs, and one a white lamb).
