A number of holiday snapshots are taken in the Taupo, Wairakei area, with one view of thermal steam vents at Wairakei, and several of the Waikato River and the Huka Falls. Description: Album of photographs chiefly taken by Rhoda McWhannell. The first part of the album covers a trip Mrs McWhannell took overseas in 1980, travelling to Russia, England, China, India, Kashmir and South Africa. The travel images include scenes in St. Petersburg and Petrodvorets (Russia); with friends in Bramshott (England); in Peking, with Xie Feng, Professor of ornamental plants at Peking, Joy Lee, and Hazel Le Rougetel (writer of books on roses and gardens); scenes at a famous garden which includes bonsai trees, "Zhuo-Zheng Yuan" or "The Humble Administrator's Garden", Suchow (i.e. Suzhou) China; the Taj Mahal, Rajasthan, amd Fatehpur Sikri in India; scenes in Srinigar, including Lake Dal (Kashmir); and photographs of her brother (Bill McCurdie and sister-in-law Inga McCurdie and their daughter Kirsten taken in New Zealand in 1974), and Kirsten and her family in Kloof, South Africa. The following images are all in New Zealand, and are chiefly snapshots of friends and family, some identified, many who are not. They include groups visiting two houses, The Kinder House in Auckland, and The Elms in Tauranga. One sequence shows the 80th birthday celebrations for Dinah Strang held in a garden near Putararu. Description: Album of photographs relating to Rhoda McWhannell's family and friends. The bulk of the album consists of her travel to South Africa to stay with her brother Bill McCurdie and his wife Inga at their home in Kloof; visiting Mauritius on the way; and areas they visited in South Africa. The latter part of the album is in two sequences. The first shows Rhoda McWhannell's niece Sally Pat McCurdie and her fiance Keith Orange photographed at `Rozel' in November 1976; then their wedding at Auckland Cathedral on 18th December 1976. Photographer unidentified. The first church on the site was built in 1851. The second, with a tower and spire was built in 1867. Between 1880 and 1885 the spire was removed and the tower redesigned but it burned down in 1898. The Basilica of the Sacred Heart is the third building on the site. Railways album 3

Description: Publicity photographs taken by various unidentified photographers for New Zealand Railways. The only identifying information is a few pencilled notes giving some locations, but there are no captions identifying people. There is a large sequence showing events surrounding the first celebrations marking the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi on 6th February 1934 attended by Lord Bledisloe. He had purchased the site, and donated money for the Treaty House renovations in 1932. The celebrations brought 10,000 Maori to Waitangi. The images show huge crowds, haka parties, various iwi performing, and parties of dignitaries including Lord and Lady Bledisloe, Joseph Gordon Coates and George William Forbes. Other scenes with Lord Bledisloe show him visiting the Waitaki Hydroelectric power station. Views of New Zealand include Government Tourist Bureau accomodation houses including those at Waitomo and the Hermitage (Mt. Cook); accomodation houses at Helensville and Parakai with interior and exterior views, and showing activities available (spa pools, games such as croquet, golf, and bowls); anglers standing by swordfish they have caught; skiing and ski lessons; and waterfalls. Industrial and agricultural views show dairy cows, citrus groves, the Kiwi Bacon Factory, printing presses, and race courses. A number show people at the beach at Mount Maunganui, and a large group picniking. Quantity: 1 album(s) Album(s). Images taken by E C Lockett and unidentified photographer(s) ca 1915-1920s. Album inscribed 'Edith C Lockett, Lower Hutt, Feb 10th 1917' on inside front cover, and likely compiled by Edith Lockett. The album contains images of the Lockett family, particularly Edith Lockett and her siblings, Kenneth Ewart, Winifred Maud, and Edward William Lockett. The album also contains group portraits with Edith Lockett's parents, Ada Florence (nee Harrowby) and Henry George Lockett, and members of their extended family and friends, chiefly taken at the family home at 14 Stevens Grove, Lower Hutt. The album also has photographs from Kenneth Ewart Lockett's military service in World War One from November 1916 onward, and shows Kenneth and other soldiers at their camp, and includes images of army tents at an unknown location. The album also includes images of recreation activities primarily by women, such as women swimming and both men and women at the beach. Description: Photographs of large groups of people taken on tours run by New Zealand Railways, using rail and road transport. The album covers various trips taken by large groups of unidentified people, mostly in the North Island, and only as far south as Tokaanu and the Whanganui River. Very few of the photographs have captions, but several are labelled "Commerce trip", and include images of farming, ploughing, stock sales yards, and a large group of men picnicking around a hangi (p. 14). Description: Coloured photographs inserted under plastic; probably taken by Rhoda McWhannell. Most of the images show plants, many of them flowering, including natives such as cabbage trees, karaka berries, kowhai flowers, manuka, and kauri gum on a young kauri. Other plants include red currants, water lilies, wild chicory, lasiandra (or tibouchina), gourds, sedum, scarlet nerines, ginkgo trees, dogwood, fuchsias, passionfruit, wych elms and maple trees.
