Description: Album of photographs taken by Albert Lyndsay McKenzie, showing Haywards substation, Centennial Exhibition, Union Airways aircraft at Rongotai airport, and views of war memorials, other monuments, some buildings and parks and gardens in Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland. There are also some scenic views of rivers and landscape, and one photograph of bee keepers at work on hives. Albert Lyndsay McKenzie, the father of the donor, was born in Christchurch. A view of the Waimate North Mission Station Church; three views of a ginkgo biloba tree at the home of John Gilkison at Cambridge; three images taken at the home of Merta Alford (Harriet Mercy Alford) at Taotaoroa showing Sir Michael and Lady Inagh Parsons, visiting New Zealand. The last five images show scenes at a waterlily garden. Marked as being at Waitoa by Rhoda McWhannell, but possibly the Waihi Waterlily Gardens. Begonias at a waterlily garden; Waikato Farm Forestry Association tours

Description: The first three images show begonias at a waterlily garden. Marked as being at Waitoa by Rhoda McWhannell, but possibly the Waihi Waterlily Gardens. The rest of his sheet of slides show tours taken by members of the Waikato Farm Forestry Association between 1958 and 1964. The first tour (in 1958), attended by 160 people was held in part at Rozel, the farm and home of Mac (Frederick Brayshaw) McWhannell and Rhoda McWhannell at Ohaupo. The group also went to watch tree planting at Tom Smith's property (location unidentified). In 1963 the group went to Hawke's Bay with pictures showing a picnic on the beach at The Mount (Mount Maunganui) and views at Tomoana and from the top of Te Mata Peak. The last eight images relate to a tour to Mr Paterson's farm in 1964 (location unidentified). People identified are June Williams, Mr and Mrs Paterson, and W J Johns (New Zealand Forest photographer). The last two views show the Paterson Homestead. Description: A Gillespie won prizes for begonias, fine foliage plants, primulas, table bouquets, and cut flowers. The 1875 cards are lithographed by W C Wilson, Auckland, and the 1880 card is lithographed by Herald litho. Note from a descendant, Jean Erbacher (28 October 2008), indicates that A Gillespie is likely to have been Mr Alexander Gillespie, the head gardener at Government House in Auckland at that time. Description: Album of photographs relating to family and friends, travel, farming (including horticultural nurseries), and gardens, chiefly taken by Rhoda McWhannell. The front page of the album contains 26 postage stamps from RSA (Republic of South Africa). One group shows individual children of different cultures issued for Christmas 1977; one group shows different varieties of South African plants inclduing proteas and leucodendrons; one image is of the university at Stellenbosch; and two are of historical events at Ulundi and Isandlwana. The first part of the album relates to Rhoda McWhannell's brother and his family. Several are of Bill McCurdie's daughter Kirsten and her children in England, including views of Christ's Hospital School at Lincoln; others are of Bill and Inga McCurdie, with Kirsten and her children Simon and Alex in South Africa. Photographs of `Rozel', the McWhannell farm and tree nursery are the main topic of the rest of the album. These range in time from the 1950s to 1980.
