Talks about her father Bertrand Stanislaus, his political beliefs and job at Hallensteins, her opportunities as a child, the family home and the Depression years. Discusses leaving school, Karitane nursing care and her mother's health. Compares the lack of sex education during her youth with more recent trends. Discusses being dux at primary school, wanting to do clerical study at secondary school and the Dominican Convent in Dunedin.
