Rosamond House (Kawhia, N.Z.)

Villa built in 1901 on a site overlooking Kawhia township and wharf. Built as a boarding house by surveyor Edward Buckerridge, it originally had 13 rooms and possibly two bathrooms. The house was used as a boarding house only for the first three years after it was built. For a period in 1911-1912 the Buckeridge family lived in the house, but at other times it was leased to several short-stay tenants. In 1938 it was bought by Rex and Peg Nesbit. In 1952 it was acquired by the Crown for use as a doctor's residence and surgery, with Dr J.B.W Roberton and family being the occupants from 1952-1969. It was used by Tokanui Hospital circa 1970, then sat empty until being purchased privately in 1975. In 1993 it began to be used as a bed and breakfast.
