Description: A base topographic map of part of the Mackenzie District has been used to show the perimiter of the Tekapo Military Training Area which is outlined and an adjacent area cross-hatched. The legend partly explains the area as 'Defence purposes, Tekapo Military Training Area, Airspace controls'. Both military areas lie between lakes Tekapo and Pukaki. Description: Comprises diary or report of a surveying expedition 27 Oct-21 Dec (nd) which left Nelson for the Marlborough Sounds via the Boulder Bank, Croiselles, Anakiwa, the Rai and Whangamoa in which Paske (presumably the writer) mentions meeting settlers and local Maori, food collected and eaten (including fuschia berries), records the death of Simon (a Maori) and the Maori reaction to it and other details. Letters from Lucy Jervois, possibly Paske's aunt, to her sister and brother re Paske's death (12 Jun 1886), and to her sister-in-law Amelia re same (19 Jun 1886); letter from Mr Jervois probably to Paske (snr). Includes court record re Paske being intestate. Also contains `Report on the surveys of New Zealand 1885-1886', by James McKerrow, referring to the death of Paske on a surveying expedition. Description: Cadastral and topographic map of Arthur's Pass township showing 109 numbered sections alongside the Bealey River and the railway line. The railway station is marked. Avalanche Creek and Rough Creek intersect blocks of sections. Half of a chain access is noted alongside part of the Bealey River. Roads are shown. Areas of land are divided by colour coding or cross hatching to determine Railway Land or that which is under the control of the Board of Control for Arthur's Pass National Park. Note on left of map states: Arthur's Pass township area edged red is the area vested in the Board, over which they have leasing powers by special Act. Area edged yellow is railway Land and the part of this land with a hatched edging, is the approximate area which the railway authorities have agreed to hand over to the Board. Area shown cross hatched is area which the Hon. the Minister of Lands has agreed to hand over to the Board. Action in this direction is under way. All the rest of the land is already under the control of the Board except the bed of the Bealey River, and action is being taken to bring this under the control of the Board. Description: A base map of part of area of the Tekapo Military Training Area has been used to highlight four numbered proposed natural areas (P.N.A.) and a proposed reserve adjacent to lakes Alexandrina and McGregor. The second map shows an irrigated block adjacent to the Tekapo Canal, which is divided into sections and includes measurements in hectares. The base topographic map is of the area from Irishman Creek to the Glenmore - Godley Road and across to the Tekapo Canal. The Braemar Road and Fork Stream are named, the latter forming a natural boundary. Includes the sites of a plantation, paddocks and a homestead. Areas called Little Mt. John, West Lake, Upper Forks, Middle Block, DSIR Trials and Big Hill, Mackenzie District Council Domain and Tekapo township are named.
