Christchurch Town Hall (Christchurch, N.Z.)

Located at 86 Kilmore Street, Christchurch. Opened in 1972. Formally known as Christchurch Town Hall of the Performing Arts from 2007. Located in the central city on the banks of the Avon River overlooking Victoria Square. It is situated opposite the Christchurch Convention Centre. Due to significant damage sustained during the February 2011 Christchurch earthquake the Christchurch Town Hall was closed and rebuilt, with re-opening under the original name scheduled for 23 February 2019.

Description: Shows six frames. Under the title, text reads 'I think, what this lady really has in mind is a 'Helicopter hall'. The first frame shows the Christchurch town hall with a helicopter rotor on its roof. The cartoonist suggests it could also serve as a temporary railway station. The second frame suggests the 'Helicopter hall' could serve as a new Supreme Court. The next frame shows the hall acting as a 'stand-in stand' at Lancaster Park, while one of the stands is being rebuilt. The fourth frame pictures the cartoonist looking up at the 'Helicopter hall' and text reads 'We could use it as a combination bus shelter and telephone box at our corner.'
