Photographer unidentified. The first church on the site was built in 1851. The second, with a tower and spire was built in 1867. Between 1880 and 1885 the spire was removed and the tower redesigned but it burned down in 1898. The Basilica of the Sacred Heart is the third building on the site. Description: Caricature of Sir Joseph Banks. He is shown seated, dressed as a dandy, a butterfly net in his left hand, a pair of mounted butterflies in his right hand. The buttons on his jacket are made of snails and his hat consists of butterfly wings The term Macaroni derived from the Macaroni Club, to which the most dressy travelled gentlement-about-town belonged, and applied generally to any fop or dandy. There are three companions to this print, 'The fly-catching macaroni', Library ref A-038-021, and 'The simpling macaroni' ref A-042-015, one a portrait of Sir Joseph Banks, the other of Daniel Solander. The verses accompanying the engravings allude to the visit made by Banks and Solander to the Arctic circle. A further engraving by Darly, 1772, (no copy held by the Library) is titled 'The botanic macaroni'. This also shows Banks, with plants The reference to Aurelian is to the Aurelian Society established in London in the mid-eighteenth century for collectors of moths and butterflies.
