Correspondence includes letters from the University of Alberta inviting Stead to speak as part of their Distinguished Visitors programme. Includes correspondence from Charlotte Grimshaw. Also included in correspondence are several postcards, one photograph, and one letter written in German. Other documents include: - a printout of a 2015 article by Matt Stewart titled '81 Springbok protests galvanises a nation divided' - journal entries by Stead dated 14-21 September 1981, writing about the Springbok tour protests - a booklet of poems by Patrick Lane titled 'There are still the mountains' - pages from a 1981 newsletter from the League of Canadian Poets - photocopy of an article titled 'Critic who declines to hedge his bets' by A K Grant, which reviewed Stead's book 'In the Glass Case: Essays on New Zealand Literature'. Title supplied by Library. Arrangement: Papers in the this folder were originally bound with a binder clip. Description: Booklet whose inside-front page advertises the features on display at this Auckland venue, where there was a stage performance daily at 3.30 and 8 pm. As well as those mentioned in the title, other attractions were: Gypsy Queen, Cosmorama, Magnetic Lady, Stereorama, Automatic fortune teller, Ladies' shooting gallery, Galvanic batteries, Lifting machine, Lung tester, Punch & Judy, Darwin's missing link. The models on display at the Waxworks are listed, each with a biographical paragraph; they included: Queen Victoria, Lord Salisbury (Prime Minister of Great Britain at that time), the late Rt Hon William Ewart Gladstone, the Rt Hon Joseph Chamberlain, Bismarck, Dr Leander Starr Jamieson, Pope Leo XIII, General Booth of the Salvation Army, President Oom Paul Kruger, Lillie Langtry, Prince Ranjitsinhji, Madame Nellie Melba, Chang the Giant, The Duchess of Buccleugh, Miss Fortescue (actress), Princess de Chimay.
