Carleton, Eveleen, active 1895-1900

Soprano singer who arrived from London in about 1895. The Press of 4 December 1895 reported: "Madame Eveleen Carleton, who will make her first appearance in Christchurch on the occasion, has only recently arrived in the colony. She brings very high credentials from the Home Country as to her power as a vocalist. A London paper, in speaking of her efforts in "The Creation," says:—"The soprano solos were entrusted to Madame Eveleen Carleton, whose pure and flexible voice was admirably suited both to the adagio aira and the more florid passages of her part. The Musical World also writes :—" Madame Eveleen Carleton will rank high as a cantatrice..."
