Description: Album of newspaper & magazine cuttings, maps, and black & white photographs, with the title "Outer New Zealand". Includes information on various islands, including Auckland Islands, Kermadecs, Cook Islands, Niue, Rarotonga, Western Samoa, Makogai Island Leper Station, and areas of the Antarctic. On page 6, there are 2 photographs of Cook Islanders wearing traditional clothing, one group from Mangaia, and one group from Aitutaki. There are sections giving detailed information and illustrations showing various agricultural activities, including the growing of bananas, copra, breadfruit, rubber, taro, kava plants, cacao, coffee and cotton; and on page 21 are 3 images showing the construction of a fale (Samoan dwelling). One section (pages 24-25) has information and images of Robert Louis Stevenson, his wife, his house "Vailima" and his tomb. There are several pages of coloured illustrations of different breeds of Samoan fish (p 46-50). Page 27 shows a group of Faipule (members of the Samoan Native Council) who visited Wellington in May 1925.

Description: An engraving of the brass image on top of the tomb of John Mantel(l) or Mauntell, presumably the father of Sir Walter Mauntell who died ca. 1440 (cf. MS papers 83). Shows a man in mediaeval shift, a sword at his side. There are three lions' heads on his shift, and a further lion beneath his feet Supplied title. Drawn after original tombstone (ca. 1530 x 660 mm), with small brass figure and inscription reading: "Hic iacet Johes Mantele qui obiit xxix die Januar Anno dni millo cccc xxiiij [ie 1424]...". Below plate, in hand of Gideon Mantell: "In Amberley Church, Sussex, 1842." Other Titles - Hic iacet Johannes Mantele qui obiit XXIX die Januar Anno Domini mille ccccxxiii. Two dating from about 1908 show men of the Department of Lands and Survey sitting outside a tent playing instruments and singing. Description: Photographs taken 1965-1969 by the City Sexton, P J E Shotter, of graves in the Bolton Street and Sydney Street cemeteries which were to be disinterred 1972-1976 to make way for the Wellington motorway. After their removal, the gravestones were stored first in a vacant lot in Sydney Street, and later removed to Karori cemetery. Arrangement: Negatives housed at 35mm-25452-F to 35mm-25616-F. Photographs in the albums are annotated with the negative number. Albums in album octavo sequence at PA1-o-046 to PA1-o-049. Quantity: 4 album(s). 165 b&w original negative(s) 35mm strips. Finding Aids: An alphabetical index, giving names, burial date and plot number for those graves that were intended to be disinterred, is housed with the albums. It is annotated with the album and page numbers on which photographs will be found. The Bolton Street Cemetery transcripts, housed in the Manuscripts and Archives Section at MS Papers 2260, provide biographical information about the individuals interred in these graves..
