Description: A depiction of a globe, with Cook's tracks marked in red, showing the Pacific, with a star above and below, against a blue shield. Below the shield are the words "Nil intentatum reliquit" on a banner. The shield is surrounded by blue and gold scrolls and surmounted with the visored helmet from a suit of armour. Above the helmet is a wreath of a twist of blue and gold and green leaves, with and without red berries, from which rises an arm clad in British naval uniform blue. The hand is holding a Union Jack and the words "Circa Orbem" appear on a pink banner behind the flag. Quantity: 1 curio(s). Communist soldiers in miniature are scrambling over his body. One soldier on Mussolini's chest is planting flags marked: Stalingrad, Tunisia, 2nd Front. In the background to the left, another Communist soldier is defeating a Nazi soldier. To the right, a Communist soldier holds a small boy high in his arms. Description: Copy painted by Mr Duppa, February 1848. A head and shoulders portrait of the crucified Christ, wearing a crown of thorns, his eyes raised. Painted by Mr Duppa as a copy of Guido Reni's 'Le Christ au roseau dit aussi Ecce Homo'. Donated as 'Copied by Mr Duppa', later interpreted as 'by J A Duppa'. No record of a J A Duppa as an artist has been found. The inscription could be an error for English artist Bryan Edward Duppa or may correctly read 'Mr Duppa' and refer to New Zealand settler, George Duppa, who was a friend of Walter Mantell's Title supplied by Library. Accompanied by a separate brass frame in which the portrait was originally mounted. Identification: A great-great-great granddaughter of Lieutenant-Colonel Cyprian Bridge, Mrs Elizabeth Allen, wrote to the Library on 26 May, confirming that the subject of this portrait was the older Cyprian Bridge of the Royal Artillery.
