Description: Comprises photocopy of journal kept by Taylor while an apprentice on board the `Berkshire' from the vessel's arrival at Nelson on 18 Jan 1850 until 31 Mar 1850 when it left, with transcript by Tony Taylor. The `Berkshire' ran aground in Nelson and Taylor describes the work and activities he and others were involved in during that time. Also included is a passenger list for the `Berkshire', an account of the running aground from the `Wellington independent', a copy of maps showing New Zealand and Nelson and a copy of a testimonial to Taylor from the passengers of the `Northumberland' (1957).
