Description: First four photographs in this group were taken during the scientific expedition to the Chatham Islands in 1954. 33 photographs were taken by Elliot Dawson on the 17th of October 1964, during a New Zealand Oceanic Institute research cruize on the M V `Tananui' led by Dawson. These photographs comprise a record of an ancient volcanic plug, 8 KM south of Pitt Island called The Pyramid. Views include - the island from all sides seen from the sea. Close views of the rock structures. Fringes of kelp above the sea line. Seal colonies. There are also 35mm contact prints of the images.
