Description: A travel album compiled by John Horsman, chiefly relating to his work as a radio operator on the vessel 'Crusader' GXGN between March 1962 and March 1963. The album of postcards, photographs, notes, and hand drawn maps records voyages 27 to 31 around New Zealand and return voyages from New Zealand through the Panama Canal and Suez Canal. - Snapshots of people show Horsman and fellow crew members socialising: drinking beer, lounging on deck chairs, celebrating Chinese New Year on board, and posing outside the Old Dutch Tavern. Crew includes James Baillie. - Snapshots taken of locations visited show: ships 'Crusader' and 'Gudvor' in ports; Nelson streets and coastline, Tarakohe harbour, Farewell Spit; lock 'mules' (train locomotives) on Pedro Miguel locks on the Panama Canal; Riffort Fort, street and market scenes, hotel and the US Services Club, Willemstad, Curacao; Genoa city scenes; Port Said, De Lesseps pedestal, shipping, Port Tewfik, and various scenes along the Suez Canal; coastline and 'George' with locals at Trincomalee, Sri Lanka. - Postcards shows various locations visited on the voyages, including: Nelson, Picton, New Zealand; Genoa; Seattle World's Fair, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. - Includes two typescripts with instructions on using filters for photography Quantity: 1 album(s) Album(s). Description: 'On Tour' Whitcombe and Tombs travel diary of Englishwoman Doris Booth detailing her travel experiences in New Zealand between 1965 to 1966 sight seeing and visiting friends. Detailed entries describe the weather, social activities, her observations, and people and places visited. In the illustrated introduction to the travel diary Booth has ticked off on the pictures which places she has visited. On the map of New Zealand in the diary she has sketched in ink the route around the country she has taken. The diary also recounts her flight to New Zealand on BOAC in 1965, and her ship voyage back to England aboard the R.M.S. Durango in 1966. She describes an incident when a member of the crew was shot shortly after departing for England, requiring the ship to return to Wellington so police could investigate. The diary describes becoming ship board friends with Sir Walter Nash and his sister Emily Nash who were also passengers aboard this vessel. The endpages to the diary records names and addresses, the dates and correspondents of letters written by Booth, and a listing of photographs taken using Kodapak film. No photographs came with this diary. Description: Transparencies taken by unidentified photographers, mainly in England in 1962 during the Girls' Life Brigade Diamond Jubilee and related travel. Showing people, camps, flag drill, and performances. Identified people are E Newton, M Harris, K Knox, M Crawford, F Green, Mrs Bell, Mrs H Robinson, Iris Wilcock, Joan White, Jeanne Steers, F E Green, and Yvonne Harper. Officers, contingents, or groups are shown from Denmark, Australia, Scotland, South Africa, Singapore and Malaysia, and Nigeria. Two images taken at Nelson Intermediate School in 1964 of the Girls' Life Brigade Conference, one is a posed group portrait of participants and one shows the Girls' Life Brigade band playing. Some images taken during a division display at Carlaw Park in Auckland in 1962. Title transcribed from note accompanying slides.
