Description: The diaries cover the period from 6 Dec 1914 when Campbell arrived in Cairo, Egypt until 1 Jan 1916 when he was stationed in France. Description: One photograph album, taken between 1914 and 1916, chiefly relating to Vincent John Stichbury's service during World War I. Includes images taken at Gallipoli and also during time spent in military hospitals in England. Images nearly all taken by Stichbury with his captions in the album. Album compiled by Stichbury. Seventy nine of the prints have corresponding negatives, with six negatives of Gallipoli. Images of England include Longleat Hospital, hospital at Walton-on-Thames (captioned No 2 NZ General Hospital), Hornchurch Hospital, rugby games of New Zealand vs other hospital groups, London Zoo and other sights around London area. Captions do not include names of individuals. Description: Printed booklet containing a transcript of Arthur Bellingham's war diary and supplementary information compiled by the Bellingham family. Also research material used in the creation of the booklet. Comprises: - Printed booklet 'One Man's War, Remants of a Gallipoli Diary by Sapper A Bellingham, N.Z. Field Engineers' created by Neil and Juliet Bellingham, John Fulton, and Paul Martinovich circa 2015-2016. The booklet contains: a transcript of Arthur Bellingham's war diary, originally transcribed by Arthur, Ann Long and Ina Lazenby in 1990; prefaces from Ann Long, written in 1990, and R.C. (Bob) Bellingham, written in 1992; a postscript written by Paul Martinovich circa 2015; supplementary photographs and maps including some of Arthur and his brother Ernie; copies of drawings from the diary; and a summary of Arthur's military service. - Newspaper clipping 'Campaign at Gallipoli "pretty rough going"'. Author unidentified. Likely published in the Rotorua Daily Post in 1987. Discusses Arthur's time spent at Gallipoli and includes a photograph of Arthur with his service medal. - Printout of email correspondence between John Fulton and Juliet Bellingham, received 21 August 2015, subject "Bob's notes". It contains a copy of a note Bob Bellingham wrote in 1992, that was included in the booklet as a preface to the transcript with handwritten annotations by an unidentified hand. - Photocopy of a handwritten letter from Neil Bellingham on behalf of himself, Juliet Bellingham, John Fulton, and Paul Martinovich. The letter is addressed "Dear All" and the subject is "Arthur Bellingham's Gallipoli diary". It contains information about the transcription of Arthur's diary, the creation of the booklet, and the decision to deposit the diary with the Library. Collins' "New Zealand" Pocket Diary for 1915

Description: Diary with entries for the period 28 June to 31 December 1915. Volume prefaced with note describing the complete sequence of five volumes for the period "from 1st July 1915 to 9th Sept 1919" and on page for 1 May: "Dedication. To my comrades who in the Eastern land of sin sand sun and soldiers sorrows were good to me." In the first entry Jackson notes: "Last week after many failures I managed to get passed by a Doctor as 'medically fit' and also got into the Sixth Rfs [reinforcements] at the same time", and goes on to say "I would only have been too pleased to go to the war sooner but must say 'better late than never', & let it go at that." Diary describes enlistment, time spent at Addington, before travelling to Timaru, and again by railway back to Christchurch, and then on board the Wahine at Lyttelton bound for Wellington. On arrival in Wellington accommodation in Buckle Street Barracks. From there the new recruits moved to Trentham Military Camp. Describes departure from Wellington on transport ship 'Tofua' and sea journey to Aden. From there on to Suez and Zeitoun, and visits to Alexandria and Cairo. Jackson goes on to describe time on Lemnos Island, his joining of the machine gun section, and then transportation over to the Dardenelles with action at the front at Gallipoli, including descriptions of Hill 60. Return to Egypt, Alexandria, Cairo and camp at Heliopolis in December 1915. The diary is mostly written in graphite and purple pencil, with some annotations in ink. Title transcribed from item. Ynyr George Jackson commenced his military service on 1 July 1915. Quantity: 1 folder(s) bound volume. Hutchison and his mates were members of a medical corps. War diary

Description: This folder contains the war diary written by McRae from Jan to Sep 1915. At the front of the diary is a brief timeline of travelling dates from leaving Auckland in Sep 1914, through to arriving in Cairo on 5 Dec 1915. McRae's entries in the diary are brief. He describes his time at Zeitoun Camp, parades, training drills, and visits to the Egyptian Pyramids. McRae transfers with his unit to Ismalia on 26 Jan 1915. Comments on the attach of the Turkish Army at Suez Canal on 3 Feb 1915. Transported on the `Katuna' on 10 Apr 1915 to the island of Lemnos. Ship moves off ANZAC Cove on 24 Apr 1915. Details fighting and wounded until 4 May 2015 when he disembarks at ANZAC Cove and moves up to the firing line. Wounded in leg on 8 May 1915, wound dressed on beach the next day. Taken aboard transport with other casualties including Lieutenant-Colonel Plugge and Major Harrowell. Shipped to Malta via Alexandria to recuperate at St George's Hospital. McRae details life on Malta over the next month. Returns to Gallipoli and the front line on 25 Jun 1915. Involved in the battle of the Turkish Army's last major offensive against the ANZAC soldiers on 29 and 30 June 1915. Injured for a second time on 7 Aug 1915 during Auckland Infantry's attack in the ANZAC offensive which included the attack on Lone Pine and Chunuk Bair. Lay out without dressing for three days then carried down to shore. Medical attention the following day and transferred to a medical boat on 11 Aug 1915. En route to Malta the bullet was removed from his leg. Very few entries in the diary from this point. Leg operated on 19 Aug 1915, amputated 13 Sep 1915 (last entry). End pages of diary include some contact addresses and a list of names (possibly correspondents). Quantity: 1 folder(s). Description: Album of photographs compiled by George Gordon Denniston illustrating a soldier's experience of the Gallipoli campaignaand military life in France, September 1915 to June 1918. Photographer(s) unidentified. Album opens with a view of Cathedral Rock, Gallipoli, and follows with other views of the landscape, the trenches, dugouts, troops, life on site, and other activities relating to the campaign. There are pictures of the dead and wounded, and of men and mules bringing water to the trenches. There are also sections on Lemnos, the Greek Island some way off Gallipoli. It functioned as a back-up base during the campaign. Soldiers were landed there prior to going to the front. Hospitals and other services were located there, and Moudhros (Mudros) Harbour provided shelter for scores of warships. The album has views of the countryside and the chief town, Kastron, as well as camps, camp life and warships. The photographs record the departure from Gallipoli via Lemnos for Egypt and Alexandria on board the SS Hororata. There are views of Alexandria Harbour followed by others of Cairo Zoo. Then its Zeitoun military training camp on the outskirts of Caio where the troops were requipped and retrained for the Western Front and the defence of Egypt. Denniston took part in guarding the Suez Canal against Turkish attack before going to France as there is a view of the camp at Serapeum, a town on the canal just north of the Great Bitter Lake. The second half of the album records experiences in France. There are photos of soldiers, horses, regimental groups and the houses and French families they were billeted with. There are no scenes of the site of battle as there are among the Gallipoli photos. The album ends with the return voyage home via the Panama Canal on the USS Tahiti (H.M.N.Z.T. 97) in June 1918.
