Description: Interview with Catherine Fitzsimmons, born in Scotland in 1914. Talks about her parents Tom and Catherine Carroll emigrating to New Zealand in 1923 and settling in Stockton where her father was a miner. Refers to her mother running a boarding house, and working for her without pay after she left school at 13. Outlines getting married to Harry Fitzsimmons in 1940, and her husband buying a house in Stockton. Describes having to move to Ngakawau in 1957, to a state house that their doctor helped arrange for them, and her feelings about the house. Comments on the house being too small, and her parents living with them. Refers to bedrooms like little boxes, the kitchen being too small for congregating, and the fight to get an inside toilet. Comments on the community hall, swimming pool, sports teams and pub. Mentions renovations to the house, and the effects of market rents in the 1990s. Refers to her father, mother, husband and eldest sister all dying in the 1960s. Description: Transparencies of industrial structures in New Zealand, taken by Geoffrey Thornton or Jocelyn Thornton. Each slide mount is annotated with the subject (type of structure and sometimes name of owner/company/building) and location. Dates and photographer name are sometimes annotated. Title transcribed from item. Most slides are not dated. Arrangement: The second of two boxes of slides labelled 'Industrial'. Transparencies were arranged in a 6-row, 50 slides per row, plastic case, and slides of similar structures were grouped together. Quantity: 24 colour original transparency/ies. Physical Description: Colour transparencies in plastic and cardboard slide mounts. Processing information: Slides have been removed from container and put into archival pockets, following the original order, from left to right and top to bottom.
