Description: Cadastral map with topographical features of an area in the Wairarapa, bordered on the left side of the map by the Waipoua River, and the Tauheru [Tauweru] River on the right side of the map. Other rivers shown are the Ruamauhanga, Kopuaranga, and Wangaehu. Other areas identified are the Masterton Small Farm Reserve, Masterton township, Manaia [Block] and Native Reserve. Property holdings showing acreage size and surnames are also identified. The names are Wallace, J.H. and R.D.Wallace, R.E.Pemberton, Fairweather, Pemberton, Welch, Campbell, J. and H.Campbell, W.Welch, Paul, R.Cottins, W.Dorset, Toomath, W.Bowter, W.R.Smith, A.Cruyne, H.Cruyne, Dagge, Woodcroffe, Smith, J.T.Ball, and R Collins at Te Ori Ori [Te Ore Ore]. Red lines cross the map, particularly the area between the Waipoua and Ruamahanga Rivers, and pass through small triangular shapes suggesting measurement points. Two of these are named Tirohanga and Matapihi. Maori names transcribed as per the spelling on the item, suggesting places or streams are, Kuangawariwari Plain, Kiripuni [stream], Makoura [stream], Te Whanga, Waioterangiaka-aka, Waipawa [stream], Mangamutu [stream], Kaununga, M.Topetopeto, Te Purapura, Mangarangikaukino, Waiohanga, Ruariki, Kaikurangai, Mangarei, Waipapa, Waiohanga,and Wai-ote-kai. Description: Photographs of New Zealand taken circa 1870s to 1880s, many by unidentified photographers, with several being taken by James Bragge. One that is clearly by Bragge shows his named carriage "J. Bragge. Photographer. Lambton Quay, Wellington" in a photograph taken on the road on the Featherston side of the Rimutaka Hill (on page 18). The first fourteen pages show views of the Pink and White Terraces, each from varying angles. These are followed by views of Ohinemutu. Many of the photographs are unidentified, including one of a meeting house with a group of Maori men, women and children in front. Painted on the maihi are the words "Mauimua Mauiroto Maui", painted fish and Maui in a boat fishing. On page 26 is a photograph of a painting, possibly by Charles Blomfield, showing Lake Rotomahana with the Pink Terraces on the right and the top of the White Terraces in the foreground, beside which there are two men.
