Green Islands

Nissan Islands

The coral atoll called Green Islands is a group comprising Nissan Island and Pinipel Island (frequently known as Nissan Islands because Nissan Island represents 90 per cent of the land area). They are part of a larger group unofficially known as the North Solomon Islands; administered by Papua New Guinea. [Source: Motteler, Lee S. Pacific Island names]. (The names Green Island and Nissan Island seem to be used interchangeably in the World War II Official War Album, Pacific, 453-827 (PA1-q-303) in which they speak of a commando raid on Green Island and the Nissan Island campaign).
