Description: A travel album compiled by John Horsman, chiefly relating to his work as a radio operator on the 'Dominion Monarch' at an unspecified time period [probably early 1961-1963], and the vessel 'Ceramic' GFLM between March and May 1963. The album of postcards, photographs, notes, and a hand drawn map records shore leave activities on the North West coast of America, Japan, and New Zealand. - Snapshots of people show: Horsman and fellow crew members sightseeing in Seattle, San Francisco, and Vancouver, and wine tasting at Pacific Vineyards, Henderson. Many images show Japanese woman Midori, in traditional and Western dress, at various touristic spots in Japan. A few images show Midori with Horsman, Paddy, and another Japanese woman Michiko. Description: Comprises letters sent by Erla Saunders Lambert to her family in New Zealand, 12 March 1947 to 20 April 1948. Letters sent by Erla from various locations, including Noumea and Suva in the Pacific; Los Angeles, Seattle, and Chicago in the United States; and Calgary, Banff, Niagara Falls, Ottawa, Montreal, and Arvida in Canada. Also includes transcriptions of the letters made after Erla's death in 1995; a letter from Ella Wilcox to Mrs Saunders, 18 November 1947, and a photocopy of newspaper clipping featured in Alberton which includes a story about Erla and Ella Wilcox, 4 December 1947. Title supplied by Library. Arrangement: Materials arrived at the Library in a box labelled "Erla Lambert Colln | Box 1 of 3" on the top, "Newcomb College Center for Research on Women | Newcomb Archives" and "Erla Lambert letters and transcriptions Jan 1951 - Dec 1957" on the side. The box had been reused by the donor. Each letter and transcription had been housed together in archive safe folders by the donor. Quantity: 1 box(es) contains 44 letters, corresponding transcriptions, and one photocopy of a newspaper clipping. Processing information: Original letters have been enclosed in archival paper envelopes or wrapped in acid free paper for reasons of storage and preservation.
