Description: Photographs of various women in Harry Unwin's life, 1940s-1950s, some of whom he may have been romantically involved with. Taken by a range of photographers, many of whom are unidentified. - Contains portraits of women, many of whom have autographed and sent their image to Unwin. Includes studio portraits and glamour photographs. Some first names are given, including "Norma", "Glad", "Miskey", "Betty", "Mona", "Margaret", 'Joan", and "Elvie", but many are unidentified. One image features a topless woman on the beach. - Includes a series of images of dancer Billie Ponds. These include professional stage shots in costume and studio portraits that she has given to Unwin. Ponds has autographed or annotated the rear of a number of the images. Also includes images of Unwin and Ponds together by a fountain and at a railway station, and Ponds with an older woman [possibly her mother?]. Another series features a blond woman identified only as "Elese" and includes professional portraits in a swimsuit and high-heeled shoes on a beach as well as informal snapshots [possibly taken by Unwin?]. One portrait is signed "To Harry, with fondest regards, Elese". Includes some correspondence related to the birth of two of her children in the 1940s. The notes are densely written out on single pages, note cards, or sections of note pads. Topics range across Curnow’s youth and school years, her artistic works and exhibitions, friendships, and memories of her parents and their creative work. Many notes relate to Rita Angus her “Portrait of Betty Curnow” of 1942. Title transcribed from original enclosure. Arrangement: Originally housed in two file boxes, both labelled "Mother's Bio" and “BC. 2”, which arrived in two separate transit boxes. One transit box numbered "6" included another other file box labelled " Rita Angus material | And copies from my diaries…" and "BC.2". The other transit box was numbered "7" and included another file box labelled “Family Personal | Mother | Le Cren family” and “BC 2”. Description: An album containing photographs of landscapes, cityscapes, rivers, waterfalls, lakes, glaciers, geothermal areas, mountains, roading and train networks from across New Zealand, The album also includes a handful of photographs with Māori subjects. The photographs were taken by Leslie Hinge, circa 1900-1940. Many feature short captions written by Hinge giving subjects and locations. Images show various subjects including: - Panoramas of cities and towns such as Wellington, Napier, Wanganui, Tauranga, Rotorua, Auckland, Russell, Christchurch, Dunedin, and Queenstown. - Views of geothermal areas and reserves from around the central plateau, including Orakei Korako, Whakarewarewa, Ōhinemutu, the Dragon's Mouth Geyser, Wairakei, Pohutu Geyser, Whakarewarewa and Hongi's Track. - Images of lakes from the Rotorua district, including lakes Rotorua, Ōkataina, and Rotoma. - Motor vehicle traffic bridges and railway viaducts from across New Zealand, such as the Mohaka, Makohine and Hāpuawhenua viaducts. - Rivers, waterways and waterfalls from across the North and South islands, including the Waikato, Wairoa, Tāngarākau, Wanganui, Pelorus and Avon rivers; the Aratiatia Rapids on the upper Waikato River; and the Whangārei Falls and Rainbow falls at Kerikeri. - Scenic views of South island lakes such as Lake Matherson, Lake Te Anau, Lake Ianthe, Lake Mapourika, and Lake Wakatipu. - South Island scenic destinations such as Franz Joseph Glacier, Mount Cook, The Hermitage Hotel, the Milford Track, Milford Sound and Mitre Peak. - A Ngāti Tūwharetoa kapa haka group performing a haka peruperu. - Māori women at Ōhinemutu, cooking and preparing flax for weaving and mat making.
