Description: Scrapbook compiled by Graham Eglinton in circa 1980s about the restoration of his cottage in Carterton. Contains black and white and colour photographs of the cottage before and during restoration. Images show interior and exterior views. Graham Eglinton's son Ray Eglinton, and other children and adults (probably Eglinton family members) are shown in many images, they are shown both working and relaxing at the cottage. They are frequently shown with tools and wearing swandris or plaid shirts, tool belts, overalls or jeans, and boots. BMX bikes are shown in several photos. One image shows a child posing with his head and hands in wooden stocks next to another child with a bottle. Also includes a copy of a 1916 photograph of the cottage with four children and a bicycle in front of it (one of the children is identified as Rita Nelson), a sketch of the cottage by an unidentified artist, and newspaper clippings. Loose accompanying material includes photographs, photocopies from a publication, and an invitation for Graham Eglinton to afternoon tea at their Carterton residence 'Bushbury' from Alison and Tommy Underhill (1996). Title supplied by library Graham Eglinton bought and started restoring (in 1982) the 1870s house at 1341 High Street in Carterton known as "Daniel Jensens' cottage". The cottage was sold by his son Ray Eglinton in 2003. Inside front cover shows a calendar for the last part of 1915, and January-September 1916. There is a foreword by company founder Robert Laidlaw, photographs of the Auckland sales staff, photographs of the showrooms of each department and portraits of the staff who ran them; photographs of office staff at work and the shop equipment (entrance stairs, elevator, employees dining room, currant cleaner and raisin stemmer, the packing department), and an illustration of the warehouse on the corner of Hobson and Wyndham Streets. There follows an advertisement for the company's book of plans and specifications for houses, and an account of the way the war was affecting prices and supplies of goods (See pages 18-21).
