Photographs in the North Island include tours between Stratford and Ongarue; Ngaruawahia celebrations in 1938 (including views of King Koroki's house which was built in 1938); Rotorua and six lakes trip; and opening ceremonies for the Hutt Railway. Description: Sketch map of Lake Tutira and surrounding area including Lake Waikopipo, Oraki Lake, inlet stream, Papkakira [Sandy] Creek and outlet stream, Tutira Stream. All three lakes contain numbers which are probably sounding measurements. Features and areas identified include the Napier-Wairoa highway, Tutira Station, homestead and homestead buildings, a church, Tutira south boundary line, Ian Franklin's farm, Miss Hardy's, Tiroroa Lodge, Titura Hall, Waikoau Road, A Turnbull's house and farm, PO and Store, Bimler's house and farm, Kahika Station, and Mackenzie's. Areas identifed as Native Land, Native Boundary, Te Wae Wae Hangi, Te Wae Wae Memorial and Te Rewa Pa are shown, as well as the locations of a jetty, submerged rocks, and two sunk canoes around the edges of the lakes. Three streams that run into Lake Tutira are named as Waipara Stream, Kahikanui Stream and Te Whatu-Whewhe Stream. Many areas around the shores of Lake Tutira are identified in Maori language. Description: Photographs taken by John Tenison Salmon between 1927 and 1955, mostly in the Wellington Region. Some are art photographs, including still life images of carvings, cloisonne ware and porcelain, and some are tinted. One sequence shows the Dominion Museum and Art Gallery, both interior and exterior views. Some were taken in April 1936 before the building was furnished; others were taken later in 1936 and 1937, including the Kauri Hall, the Sculpture Hall, the Art Gallery, the National Portrait Gallery, the Academy Gallery, the Maori Hall, and the entrance vestibule. Civic events are shown in illuminations at the Government Buildings for the King George V Silver Jubilee on 12th May 1935; the Carillon tower floodlit for for the coronation of King George VI; and night photographs of the New Zealand Centennial Exhibition in 1940, including the Australian and British pavilions. Wellington is shown in views from various hills and rooftops. Specific trips and occasions include a Waikaremoana trip in 1930; the Victoria University College Natural History Society trip to Butterfly Creek in 1933; a Camera Club outing near Mangaroa Hill in 1938; and celebrating Xmas in Auckland in 1952.
