Description: The top image, from an original made in 1778 by John Webber, shows three sailors in a rowing boat in the right foreground aiming rifles at the group of walruses in the left foreground. There are icy hills in the background. The lower image, from an image possibly originally drawn by J Woodcock, shows a view in Coal Harbour in Cook's River, in British Columbia, with a three-masted sailing ship in the left foreground, and partially wooded hills in the background. A image similar to this was published in Portlock, Nathaniel. A voyage round the world; but more particularly to the north-west coast of America: performed in 1785, 1786, 1787, and 1788, in the King George and Queen Charlotte, Captains Portlock and Dixon. The companion to this print, "The simpling macaroni" is a portrait of Daniel Solander. The verses accompanying the engravings allude to the visit made by Banks and Solander to the Arctic circle.
