Date: [1865-?]

Reference: MapColl-832.45a/[1865-?]/Acc.43714

Description: Sketch map showing topographical features of an area of land in the Wairarapa from the Tauherenikau River at the bottom of the map to the Taratahi Plain at the top of the map. The left side shows the Moroa Plain and the Waiohine River and the right side shows the Wangaehu [Whangaehu] River. The Ruamahanga River is shown running from the top to the bottom of the map. The locations of the townships of Carterton and Greyton [Greytown] are identified and two areas named as Kaikoka [Ahikouka] and Papawai. Morrison's farm [possibly Morison's Bush] is also identified. Two spot heights are named as Haldon Hill and Warleigh Hill. Red lines suggest possible roads as one is identified as "new line of road". An annotation written at the top right corner of the map where six dots point to a river dividing into two, states "Hence [indecipherable word] junction of the Waingawa & Ruamahanga is 1.3/4 miles". The farm identified as "Morison's farm" was a farm station initially called Hakeke, later Glenmorven, located near Greytown, Wairarapa. From 1846 it was run by Hugh Morrison (1782-1872) and Anne, nee Turner (1800?-1844). The area is known as Morison's Bush or Morrison's Bush. Two branches of the Morison/ Morrison family spell their name differently. The family at Greytown use “Morison” – those at Blairlogie, near Masterton use the double ‘r’. Quantity: 1 manuscript map(s). Physical Description: Ink and wash on paper glued to linen backing, coloured. Scale not given, 36.9 cm x 49 cm.
