Description: Journal kept by Russell describing a whaling voyage on the `Lady Rowena' 1830-1832, with later annotations 1839-1846, and incidental papers 1820-1829. Includes a brief account of the voyage from London to Sydney, 25 Apr-19 Aug 1830, and a detailed account of the whaling voyage around the Solomon Islands, Papua, the Bismarck Archipelago, Japan, the Marianas, the Admiralty Islands, Dampier Strait, the Trobriand Islands, the Caroline Islands, Samoa, Tonga and the Santa Cruz Islands 2 Nov 1830-25 Jun 1832. Describes islanders' dress, their languages, appearances and culture, as well as islands geography, flora and fauna. Includes maps and island profiles. Source of title - Supplied by Library Bourn Russell arrived in Sydney, NSW, in 1826.
