Also includes a broken photograph of Rosina Buckman as a young woman, an autographed photograph of singer Peggy Ford dated 1922, and a photograph taken inside the Royal Albert Hall, London, probably during World War I, at a concert for soldiers. Description: Journal of Kathleen Luckens comprising entries pertaining to her singing career and tutelage, her time living in London, and her travels, mostly in Paris and London. The journal, a Campbell's Quarto Diary printed in Glasgow, is dated 1904 and includes printed months and days, however Luckens' entries are sporadic and do not correlate to these dates; the entries she has dated are from 1904 to 1916. Diary entries include - Luckens' account of her departure from New Zealand, and a short stay in Australia - Passage through various ports, including in Cape Town and Tenerife - Her travels and tourist activities in London and Paris, particularly visits to various botanical gardens and garden shows - Her time living in London as a student of Mr Blower of the Royal Academy of Music, and Charles Santley - Musical notes - Newspaper clippings, some pasted in and some loose, relating to Luckens' singing career, her musical contemporaries, and music, specifically singing, more generally - Her return to New Zealand. Description: Letter from Australian bass-baritone singer Peter Dawson to Kathleen 'Dija' Fletcher. The letter was written during Dawson's tour of New Zealand in 1931. In it he shares memories of working with Fletcher's vocal tutor, the English baritone Charles Santley, and explains that although he is unwell at the time of writing, he and Mrs Dawson would like to visit Fletcher's 'shack' [her home in Titirangi] after his Auckland season of performances finishes in early August, before returning to Sydney.
