Description: Photograph of the hut made from upturned boats and tents by Shackleton's men, Elephant Island. Shackleton and his men reached Elephant Island on April the 15th 1916. The first officer, Lionel Greenstreet and the official artist, George Marston suggested that two of the boats, \"Stancomb Wills\" and \"Dudley Docker,\" be converted into a hut. The boats were overturned and supported on stone walls with the remains of the tents acting as wind breaks. The men lived in this hut during the four months that it took Shackleton, using the remaining boat, \"James Caird,\" to sail to South Georgia and return to rescue them.
