Takaparawhau, also known as Whenua Rangatira, covers 49 hectares of harbour-edge land high above Tamaki Drive. A key feature is the Michael Joseph Savage Memorial, a tribute to the first Labour Prime Minister of New Zealand and the founder of the Welfare State. The park offers panoramic views over Whenua Rangatira, Auckland city and Waitemata Harbour. It is adjacent to the Ngati Whatua papakainga.

Description: Photographs taken by John Tenison Salmon between 1927 and 1955, mostly in the Wellington Region. Some are art photographs, including still life images of carvings, cloisonne ware and porcelain, and some are tinted. One sequence shows the Dominion Museum and Art Gallery, both interior and exterior views. Some were taken in April 1936 before the building was furnished; others were taken later in 1936 and 1937, including the Kauri Hall, the Sculpture Hall, the Art Gallery, the National Portrait Gallery, the Academy Gallery, the Maori Hall, and the entrance vestibule. Civic events are shown in illuminations at the Government Buildings for the King George V Silver Jubilee on 12th May 1935; the Carillon tower floodlit for for the coronation of King George VI; and night photographs of the New Zealand Centennial Exhibition in 1940, including the Australian and British pavilions. Wellington is shown in views from various hills and rooftops. Specific trips and occasions include a Waikaremoana trip in 1930; the Victoria University College Natural History Society trip to Butterfly Creek in 1933; a Camera Club outing near Mangaroa Hill in 1938; and celebrating Xmas in Auckland in 1952. Description: "Folder one" contains material relating to the Pacific overstayers, anti-apartheid movements in New Zealand, inter-party conflicts, and Vice President Nelson Rockefeller's visit to New Zealand. Dates rare 1976 to 1977. "Folder two" contains inter-party correspondence and communications, fundraising and financial material, material relating to Marxism-Leninism Mao Tse-Tung, and various communist bulletins. Dates are 1972 to 1973, and 1977 to 1978. "Folder three" contains various inter-party information bulletins, material relating to Selwyn Devereux's probation period within the party, and notices published by the Progressive Youth Movement, Wellington. Dates are 1973, and 1978 to 1979. "Folder four" contains various inter-party information bulletins, views and opinions on foreign affairs and policies, material relating to Halt All Racist Tours, various left-wing publications, including "Home is Where You Slave", and an issue of the Young Socialist magazine, inter-party correspondence, anti-Vietnam war material, and newspaper clippings. Folder also contains material relating to the parties thoughts and opinions on the Land March, criticism of the Treaty of Waitangi, and the party's guidelines. Dates are 1975 to 1975. "Folder five" contains the meeting agenda for the Wellington City Council "Ordinary Meeting of the Council", hand written notes of correspondence, correspondence between Devereux and the Action Committee, an Agricultural Chemical Action group newsletter, and other material relating to the use of the herbicide 2,4,5-T in Wellington. Dates are 1979 to 1980. "Folder six" contains a Nuclear Free Pacific Committee action bulletin and newsletters, various invitations to events and volunteering opportunities, anti-apartheid informational correspondence and various leaflets and posters published by HART, newspaper clippings, notices, and protest publications titled "We're heading for a police state", and "Royal Commission attacks women". The folder also contains various flyers, leaflets, and information packets relating to subjects including the opposition of the SIS bill, Anti-war material, exploitation of New Zealand workers and employment rights, and the Bastion Point struggle, 1976 Thai coup, Tenants Union, and Chilean racism and fascism. Dates are 1972, and 1975 to 1978. Title supplied by Library. Arrangement: Arrived to the library in numbered cardboard folders, some of which had been replaced by Richard Hill. The folders were in a transit box. Quantity: 1 box(es) contains six folders. Transfers: Other folders from the transit box are at MS-Papers-12910-2. Processing information: The cardboard folders were disposed of by the Library and contents placed into acid-free folders. The acid-free folders were split across two archival boxes.
