Description: Interviews with 11 people who have had a close association with the New Zealand savings bank movement and the evolution of Trust Bank. Describes their working and personal relationships, the origins and development of Trust Bank, the bank's relationships with local communities and other banking organisations, and the purchase of the bank by Westpac Banking Corporation in 1996. Some material describes the bank and its people after the sale. The interviewees worked in a range of places, including Whakatane, Auckland, Bay of Plenty, Hastings, Wairarapa, Wellington, Canterbury, Geraldine, Otago and Southland. They describe their banking careers during the 1950s-1990s, including roles as juniors and clerks, branch managers, general managers and managing directors, and as head typist. Others describe working in clerical and computer services roles, supervising electronic data processing, the help desk, and in marketing. Comment on Jim Anderton's aim for a 'Peoples Bank' - Jenny Shipley is portrayed as a bank teller sitting under a signd your breath'. Public cynicism of Michael Cullen's proposed Superannuation scheme. Farmers discussing their lack of confidence in ENZA. Cartoonist's reaction to the disparity between the financial levels of sports peoples and other people when being assessed to be published on the 'rich list'. Comment on the publication that 'kiwi kids' are overweight. Shows an elderly couple, justifying to a squad of police officers at their front door, that they are doing all they can in the nationwide drive to save electricity. Shows Marian Hobbs introducing a rock band called 'Marian and the quotas'. Shows Sam Neill at the Jurassic Park 3 movie premiere with an old pre-historic friend. Shows a woman in an art gallery asking if a framed display is a piece of art. Description: The log book begins on 1 Jan 1891 and finishes on 15 May 1894; Hurley tended to note important events rather than record daily entries. It is a record of both his private life and his working life as a Bank of New South Wales inspector. Also included are two sections at the back of the log, Funny sayings of children, 1896, and Dates: Great events in history (1888-1895). Hurley's area as an inspector included the South Island (he lived in Nelson with his family) and the lower half of the North Island, from Taranaki to Hawke's Bay. He was deaf and describes situations relating to this. Describes the IBM 360/30 used to develop the Bank of New Zealand's EDP facility, trial at Vivian Street branch, conversion of 100 branches just prior to 1967 decimalisation.
