Description: Material belonging to Arthur Bellingham, relating to his service in the New Zealand Army during World War One. Comprises: - Pressed flowers "picked up in a ditch outside Ypres, Belgium". [Bellingham did not serve in Belgium. The flowers may have been gifted to him or picked up when he was on leave. They were likely picked between 1914 and 1917.] - An annotated menu for the 'Re-union of British Section New Zealand Expeditionary Force' held on 6 May 1916 at Restaurant Frascati, Oxford Street, London. The menu has been signed by Bellingham and a number of men he served with. - An annotated menu and toast list for the 'New Zealand Expeditionary Force "Records" Dinner' held on 15 February 1917. It has been signed by Bellingham and a number of men he served with. - A souvenir booklet titled 'The First Anniversary of Anzac Day. Celebrations at Hornchurch, April 25th, 1916' by Charles T. Perfect. The booklet details events attended by the New Zealand Expeditionary Force in England, to commemorate the first anniversary of Anzac Day. These included: a memorial service on 23 April 1916 (Easter Sunday) at the Parish Church of St Andrew's, Hornchurch; a march through the streets of London followed by a memorial service at Westminster Abbey on 25 April 1916; a ceremony at Grey Towers, Hornchurch on the afternoon of 25 April; and sports and races on 26 April at Grey Towers. The booklet also contains: a description of Te Whare Puni at Grey Towers; commemoration and congratulatory telegrams; and a description of the 'Masonic Anzac Festival' held on 27 April 1916 at the Royal Forest Hotel, Chingford. The booklet has been signed by Bellingham. - A certificate for 'The New Zealand 1990 Commemoration Medal' which was awarded to Bellingham on 19 April 1990. It is signed by Her Majesty The Queen, Prime Minister Geoffrey Palmer, and Governor-General Paul Reeves. Accompanying the certificate is an explanatory note detailing the 'Order of Wear', 'Bow', and 'Miniatures'. Date information for pressed flowers taken from Arthur Bellingham's service record. Description: Programme printed at the Wai[kato ...] lists stalls, competitions, entertainment programme, minstrel entertainment and "Living Pictures" (probably tableaux performed by locals), followed by a dance at 10.30 pm. Stalls included fancy goods, children's toys, fruit, refreshments, lollies, tobacco & flowers, fortune teller's tent, shooting gallery, art gallery, Aunt Sally and skittles. Competitions included Ladies' cross-cut sawing, Ladies' nail-driving, range finding, Ladies' sawing, Gentlemen's hat-trimming, weight guessing, candle-burning, peas in bottle, guessing weight of cake, Name of bride (doll). Entertainment programme included pianoforte music, orchestral music, musical dumb bells drill, musical club drill, songs, and a humorous recitation. Minstrel entertainment included comic songs, "coon" songs, sentimental songs, Mr W Tait as "Signor Mazzoni", and "The Great Negro Fishing Haka" performed by the troupe. Quantity: 1 b&w art print(s).
