Australia's oldest continously operating photographic studio. Had variety of name changes. Established by William Freeman and James Freeman circa 1854. Known as Freeman & Co between 1880-1892 when operating out of premises at 346 George Street, Sydney; and between 1900-1946 when located at 318 George Street (see State Library of NSW 'Freeman Studio, Sydney, studio portraits, 1855-' and PXE 1058/Items 8-55). Photographic Company Sydney, fl 1885. Also used the brand "Freeman late Oswald Allan," and advertised as a crayon and minature painter.

Description: The Epsom Trust collection comprises many different lots of different provenance. This album of unidentified photographic prints relates to John Buchanan (1819-1892) and the Buchanan family of Elsthorpe estate, Napier. Contains studio portraits of John Buchanan and various family members as adults and as children taken during the family's residence in Sydney, Australia, and in New Zealand.
