Description: Papers relating to Maori music and waiata. Includes the script for a radio programme about Maori music by Phyllis Williams (Kirimamae), called "Maori Song Forms" on the scripts. Many of the waiata featured in the programme relate to Ngati Porou, and people mentioned in the programme include Sir Apirana Ngata, Ngaropi White, Materoa [Reedy], Hera Haereroa, Enoka Te Pakaru, Hiria Tamati, Matekino Brown, Alfred Hill and Tuta Nihoniho. Also mentioned is the story of Pou (Pourangahua) and the origins of the haka associated with Te Rauparaha "Ka mate, ka mate" are discussed saying it has connections to the story of Maui capturing the sun. Different kinds of waiata or song forms are discussed as well as titi torea, or Maori stick games. Also includes lyrics and translations of many Maori waiata, a booklet of Handel's Hallelujah Chorus, translated into Maori, with notation, and a programme for the 123rd Waitangi Day Celebration, at Waitangi on 6 Feb 1963.
