From: Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club: Records

Reference: Series-6024-2

Description: Comprises inwards correspondence, related documents, and copies of outward correspondence filed by the Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club Executive Committee from September 1982 to May 1998. After January 1991, documents are usually filed with a cover sheet indicating the month they were discussed at an Executive Committee meeting. Between 1982 and 1991, documents were filed in rough chronological order. Regular correspondents are Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club members, the Wellington City Council, the New Zealand Yachting Federation, and other sailing clubs in the Wellington region. Other correspondents include the Wellington Regional Council, the Wellington Harbour Board, Lambton Harbour Management Limited, yacht clubs from around New Zealand or the world, sailing or water sports organisations (Team New Zealand, Wellington Yachting Association, New Zealand Water Safety Council), government departments, commercial sponsors, charities, politicians, and notable sailing personalities (Grant Dalton, Peter Blake, Alan Martin, Geoff Stagg, Alan Sefton, Lindsay England). Material addresses various aspects of club administration, often related to financial decisions (budgeting, insurance, club funding, requests for sponsorship). Other recurring matters include elections to club office (nominations, notifications to elected individuals), membership (unpaid subscriptions, conferring life membership, resignations, corporate membership), complaints or disciplinary action, clubhouse bookings or maintenance, Keelers restaurant, activities related to 'The Rip' magazine, and administration of Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club regattas and events. Material also contains letters of thanks or congratulations sent to and from the club, and copies of minutes from the club sub-committees meetings. Material also addresses wider or external matters of interest to the Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club. Correspondence from other yacht clubs covers changes to their own organisational structures (elections, resignations), notices of races and meetings, invitations to social events, reciprocal arrangements, member introductions, and memoranda. Correspondence from the New Zealand Yachting Federation comprises copies of their meeting minutes and memoranda sent to affiliated clubs, usually around changes to racing rules and yachting safety.
