The boy, Eric Leonard, is using a toaster. His mother Violet pours water from an electric jug into a tea pot and his father Edward Percival (the photographer) is seated on left. Photograph taken circa 1940. Caption in Making New Zealand reads: "The toaster and water-jug show the everyday use of electricity in the home."
