Jenny Shipley steps down from National Party leadership, Bill English is nervous about what this means for him. Description: Comprises lyrics for a New Zealand satirical political song titled 'Our happy song' in an unidentified hand. Lyrics mention the National Party, various New Zealand Labour Party politicians and candidates, including Peter Fraser and John A Lee, and broadcaster Colin Scrimgeour. May have been written after the September 1943 General Election. [possibly written to the tune of 'Hi-Diddle-Dee-Dee' from the Walt Disney film 'Pinnochio' (1940) as each verse commences with a verse of the words 'Hi-Diddle-Dee-Dee' in the same manner as the Disney song]. Includes a piano arrangement of an unpublished song, 'Twilight', written and composed by the baritone Mose Hamilton Hodges. - a printed "Hymn Sheet" printed by A.L. Westmoreland (Palmerston North) which is annotated 'E Kerrigan Esq" and "Pohangin[a] Road". - a published sheet music of 'Boat Song', bearing the owner's stamp of the singer "Hubert E. Mary Kearins lived and performed circa 1920s in Palmerston North, performing in 1921 in a concert at the Municipal Opera House which featured tenor Hubert E Carter. American baritone Moses Hamilton Hodges was a member of the Fisk Jubilee Singers, who settled in New Zealand and is known to have performed in Palmerston North between 1908 and 1923.
